Stanford, Calif. — The Stanford men’s volleyball team will open the 2000 season ranked No. 14 in the USA Today/American Volleyball Coaches Association Coaches Poll released today. The Cardinal will open the 2000 season versus UC San Diego on Friday, Jan. 14 at Maples Pavilion beginning at 7 p.m.
Stanford concluded the 1999 season with a 10-12 overall and 7-12 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation record and were unranked in the final USA Today/AVCA poll. A strong freshmen class, led by Curt Toppel (Malibu, CA), and returnees Brett Youngberg (Surrey, Canada) and Josh Lukens (San Diego, CA) helped propel the Cardinal into the 2000 preseason rankings.
The Cardinal, who received 44 votes in the preseason poll, will face 11 of the Top 15 teams during the 2000 season, including top-ranked UCLA on Saturday, Jan. 22 at Maples Pavilion.
