Men's Volleyball Topples No. 5 Long Beach State

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The 7th-ranked Stanford men's volleyball team rebounded from back-to-back losses last week - the first two losses of the season - to knock off 5th-ranked Long Beach State 3-2 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation matchup at The Pyramid. With the win, Stanford improves to 8-2 overall and 7-2 in the MPSF while Long Beach State fell to 9-4 overall and 3-4 in the conference.

Sophomore outside hitter Andy Witt (Santa Ynez, CA/Santa Ynez HS), fresh off his 51-kill performance against Loyola Marymount in the team's last outing - the highest single-match kill total in the nation to date - paced the Cardinal with a match-high 38 kills. Witt, who also added a match-high 13 digs, hit .433 (38-12-60). Senior middle blocker Keenan Whitehurst (Fresno, CA/San Joaquin Memorial HS), the conference leader in hitting percentage, posted a match-high .533 (9-1-15) clip in the victory.

Stanford returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, February 28, when it takes on USC at 7:00 p.m.
