HONOLULU - Defending NCAA champion Stanford had its nine-match winning streak broken by Hawai'i, 25-22, 25-21, 25-17, in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men's volleyball action Friday before 3,531 at the Stan Sheriff Center.

No. 2 Stanford, which has seven players from Hawai'i, hit only .200 as a team and struggled with its passing. The result was the Cardinal's first loss to the Warriors after seven consecutive victories in the series, and an end to a winning streak of 19 consecutive sets against the Warriors dating back to 2008.

Brad Lawson, playing in his hometown, led Stanford (3-1, 2-1) with 13 kills, while Jonas Umlauft had a match-high 22 kills and a .500 hitting percentage for Hawai'i (1-3, 1-0), playing its MPSF opener.

The teams meet again Sunday at 8 p.m. PT.
