Stanford Volleyball Sweeps Sacramento State

STANFORD, Calif. -Gabe Gardner, a junior transfer from USC, recorded 19 kills and a .615 hitting percentage in his first match as a Cardinal to lead Stanford in a exhibition victory over Sacramento State Thursday night at Burnham Pavilion. Game scores were 15-10, 15-2, 15-3.

Junior Andy Witt added 12 kills in the winning effort. Freshman Larry Witt, Andy's younger brother, posted 39 assists on the night.

Defensively, senior Jeremy Bart led the Cardinal with six blocks. Freshman Marcus Skacel registered a match-high five digs.

As a team, Stanford held Sacramento State to a .045 hitting percentage, while posting a .486 mark themselves.

The Cardinal will begin its regular season Fri., Jan. 15 vs. Loyola Marymount. Match time is 7 p.m. at Burnham Pavilion. Stanford concluded its exhibition season with a 2-5 record.
