Forty-four Olympic Athletes To Compete at Peregrine Systems U.S. Open at Stanford

Marion Jones, Five-Time Olympic Medal Winner, Headlines Top Track & Field Competition at Stanford

Stanford, Ca - It promises to be one of the highlights of the 2001 track & field season. It's the Peregrine Systems U.S. Open on Saturday (6/9) at Stanford University's Cobb Track & Angell Field.

More than 44 athletes who competed at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney will be competing. The competition will begin at 5:00 pm. with the men's discus.

Marion Jones, who won five Olympic medals in Sydney (including three gold medals), will compete in the 200 meters at 6:25 p.m. Other Olympic competitiors include silver medalist Terrence Trammel in the 110 hurdles (6:05 p.m.), silver and bronze medalists Adam Nelson and John Godina in the shot put (7:50 p.m.) and world recordholder Stacy /Dragila in the pole vault (5:30 p.m.).

The women's 1,500 meter field (7:35 p.m.) features four-time Olympian Regina Jacobs and Marla Runyan, who is legally blind.

All three U.S. Olympians in the women's high jump (6:40 p.m.) are entered; Amy Acuff, Karol Damon and Erin Aldrich.

The men's mile has three Olympians (7:10 p.m.), Kevin Sullivan of Canada, and Daniel Zegeye of Ethiopia.

Seventeen countries will be represented.
