Pepperdine Defeats Georgia 4-2 to Win NCAA Men's Tennis Championship

Second-ranked Pepperdine defeated No. 1 ranked and undefeated Georgia 4-2 to capture the 2006 NCAA Men's Tennis Championship tonight at the Taube Tennis Center at Stanford. It was the first men's tennis championship in Pepperdine history and the first men's tennis title in West Coast Conference history. The Waves finished the season 36-2 while Georgia suffered their first defeat of the season after 30 consecutive wins.

Pepperdine led 1-0 after winning the doubles point. Singles victories by Ivor Lovrak and Omar Altmann put the Waves on the brink of the title. Andre Begemann, at No. 4 singles, clinched the match for Pepperdine with a 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 win over Georgia's Matic Omerzel.
