Bryan Captures Singles Championship at All-American Tourney
AUSTIN, Texas - Stanford sophomore Bob Bryan captured the second
leg of the ITA Collegiate Grand Slam today at the ITA Reebok
All-American Tournament. Bryan, seeded fourth, topped UCLA
senior Vince Allegre, 6-2, 6-2. The native of Camarillo, CA,
Bryan broke Allegre's serve to go up 3-2 in the first set and
went on to win eight of the next 10 games.
"He's (Allegre) a good player, but I definitely have a level
above him if I play my best," said Bryan. "It's all about
executing and going out there and doing what I should do."
Bryan is the fourth Stanford player to capture the All-American
singles title in the 18 years of the tournament. The last
Stanford player to capture the title was Ryan Wolters, a
current junior on the team, as a freshman in 1995.
