ATHENS, Ga. - Senior captain Paul Goldstein and sophomore Bob Bryan won two singles matches each today to reach tomorrow's semifinals at the NCAA Championships, hosted by the University of Georgia. Goldstein will face Daniel Anderson of Virginia Commonwealth tomorrow, while Bryan will play John Roddick of Georgia to reach the finals.

Goldstein, who has played seven consecutive days including the team competition, needed three hours to defeat Michael Mather of Louisville, 6-7, 6-4, 6-2. Following that match and a trip to the hospital to receive an IV, fourth-seeded Goldstein defeated the fifth seed Thomas Dupre of Mississippi State 7-5, 0-6, 6-1. Bryan, who is seeded sixth, reached just the third round of last year's NCAA, but has reached the semifinals with two wins today as well. Bryan defeated Jean-Noel Grinda of UCLA 7-6, 6-2 first today and then topped last year's singles finalist George Bastl of USC 6-3, 7-6.

"I was not feeling well after the three hour match," said Goldstein. "I went to the hospital and got an IV in between matches. I was winded and the fluids certainly helped me. This week has been emotionally and physically exhausting. Emotionally you put heart and soul into the team competition, which ended on Tuesday, and it is hard to adjust to focusing on yourself and the individual competition."

The last time Stanford had two players in the semifinals was in 1991 when Jared Palmer and Alex O'Brien were among the final four. Palmer went on to win the whole thing that year. The Cardinal has not had an NCAA Singles Champion since O'Brien won in 1992.

The semifinal matches will be played at 10:00 am (ET) followed by two round of doubles competition. The tournament concludes on Sunday with the singles and doubles championships.
