ATHENS, Ga. - Three Stanford singles players and two doubles teams advanced today at the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships in Athens, Georgia.
Senior captain Paul Goldstein reached tomorrow's third round with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Pac-10 opponent Robert Kendrick of Washington. Goldstein, seeded fourth, will face Michael Mather of Louisville tomorrow after Mather upset seeded Cedric Kauffmann of Kentucky today. Bob Bryan and Ryan Wolters also posted second round victories today to reach the third round tomorrow. The only Stanford upset came when eight-seed Mike Bryan lost to UCLA's Vincent Allegre, 6-4, 6-2.
In the first round of doubles, fourth-seeds Bryan and Bryan and second-seeds Goldstein and Wolters won today to advance to tomorrow's rounds.
Two rounds of singles and two rounds of doubles will be played tomorrow at the University of Georgia.
