STANFORD, Calif. - No. 3 Stanford opens the home portion of its 2012-13 season with a men's swimming and diving dual meet against 25th-ranked Wisconsin beginning at 3 p.m. (PT) Friday at the Avery Aquatic Center. Live results for the meet will be available at GoStanford.com.

"We're excited for our first home - and dual - meet of the season," Goldman Family Director of Men's Swimming Ted Knapp said. "One of the great things about collegiate athletics is being able to travel and compete, and we're very glad that Wisconsin is coming out to compete against us. That's something we're hoping to do more of in the near future - going on the road to compete.

"This will be a high-energy meet with some interesting races not only between the two teams but within the two teams. We're looking forward to getting the men on the blocks in front of some great student and community support."

Wisconsin is 3-1 on the season, most recently falling last week at Minnesota, 191-100.

The Cardinal (1-0) opened the season two weeks ago at the Pacific Invitational. Stanford only competed on the latter of the two-day event, but totaled 1,063 points which ranked second among the four-team field. Pacific (1,079) finished ahead of the Cardinal, BYU (681) and UC Santa Cruz (179).

Stanford posted a clean sweep with victories in each the nine races on the day. Gary Umbach notched a pair of individual victories while contributing to a first-place relay effort for Stanford.

"We've been spending more time than usual at this point in the year on skills, turns, starts and underwater work," Knapp said. "It's going to be great to review the races after Friday. We'll pick the meet apart and see how we can get better for the rest of the season."
