STANFORD, Calif.-- Stanford men's and women's teams combined to finish second at the ConocoPhillips U.S. National Championships as Kate Dwelley (100 free) and Liz Smith (200 breast) won consolation finals on the final day. Both 4x100 medley relay teams won a bronze medal on the final day. The women's team was awarded the women's title and the men finished third.

The relay team of Betsy Webb, Liz Smith, Elaine Breeden and Kate Dwelley finished with a time of 4:08.16. Overall they were third as the other Cardinal relay team, of Maya DiRado, Julia Smit, Felicia Lee and Sam Woodward were fourth (4:08.16).

Also third overall was the men's relay of Matt Thompson, Curtis Lovelace, Bobby Bollier and Alex Coville, who swam 3:40.06.

The men's team finished with 754 points with Tucson Ford Dealers winning with 799 points. Tucson also won the women's side with 809 points with Stanford finishing second (758 points).

The full championships saw nine medals won by the Cardinal, six by the women. Bobby Bollier won the 200 fly, the women's 4x100 relay team won its own national title, the men's 4x200 relay team finish as a national runner-up, as did sophomore Maya DiRado in the 400 IM. Bronze medals went to graduate Elaine Breeden (100 fly), DiRado (200 IM) and the women's 4x200 relay team. Another three Cardinal-- incoming freshman David Nolan (200 IM) and graduates Eugene Godsoe (100 fly) and Kate Dwelley (50 free) were fourth. Both 4x100 medley teams closed out the meet in third.

On Saturday, the men had three Cardinal in the A Finals of the 200 breast with graduate Bernard Johnson leading the way with a fifth place finish (2:13.29), followed by sixth place Curtis Lovelace (2:14.26) and John Criste (2:14.41) in eighth.

Dwelley, one of three Cardinal swimmers in the B Finals of the 100 free and one of five in the ladder two finals, won the consolation 100 free with a time of 54.98. Sam Woodward (55.77) and Betsy Webb (56.02) rounded out the consolation final for the Cardinal.

Smith won the B Final of the 200 breast with a time of 2:30.15.
