Bollier Scores Top Times in 200 Fly, DiRado Also Onto Finals on Thursday

OMAHA, Neb.-- Stanford senior Bobby Bollier swam the fastest 200 fly at the U.S. Olympic Trials, in both the morning prelim and in the semifinals and enters Thursday's finals as the top seed, ahead of Davis Tarwater, world record holder Michael Phelps and Tyler Clary.

Bollier swam 1:56.06, just over six-tenths faster than his morning swim, catching and passing Tarwater over the final 50 meters.

Sophomore Maya DiRado is also headed to a finals in the 200 IM, swimming fifth at 2:12.62 behind Caitlin Leverenz (2:10.51) in the eight-woman final on Thursday.

The 14-time All-American and recent graduate, swam ahead of Tarwater (1:56.10), Phelps (1:56.42) and Clary (1:56.56). Fellow Stanford senior David Mosko fell short of the eight-man final by finishing 11th (1:58.85). Bollier swam 1:56.69 in the morning, after coming in No. 3 nationally.

Graduate Eugene Godsoe in the finals of the 100 back, swam fifth with a time of 53.61, as Matt Grevers won the contest with the world's fastest time at 52.08 ahead of Nick Thoman (52.86).

DiRado also had the fifth-fastest time at 2:14.19 in the prelims, just under two seconds slower than Leverenz (2:12.38).

Also in the morning, in the 200 free, graduate Kate Dwelley had the 25th fastest time at 2:00.89.

On Thursday, the prelims will take place in the men's 100 free, as well as the women's 200 fly and men's 200 breast. Graduate Elaine Breeden (fourth) and sophomore Andie Taylor (12th) rank in the top-15 of the 200 fly, while graduates Curtis Lovelace (14th) and John Criste (17th) rank in the top-20 of the 200 breast. Breeden and Criste were both post top-three times in previous Trials this week, Breeden with top-three times in the 100 fly and Criste with the top time in the prelims of the 100 breast.

FORMAT: Shorter events, in the 100 and 200-meter category with consist of a prelims, semifinals (top-16) and finals (top-8). Longer events, 400-meters and longer will have a prelim and finals (top-8). The event is broadcast throughout the week on NBC, NBC Sports Network and also available via live webcast at www.usasswimming.org.

To make an Olympic team, a maximum of 26 men and 26 women are chosen. Since the format has been adopted the top four finishers in the 100 and 200 freestylers, as well as the top two finishers in each other event have made Team USA. Second place finishers are added based on world rankings in 2011 and 2012, after the top-four 100/200 freestylers and the winners of each event are chosen.
