FEDERAL WAY, Wash.-- Kristian Ipsen finished in third place in the 3-Meter individual, just missing his second 2012 Olympic berth by 1.25 points.
Stanford diving will still send two Olympians to London, Ipsen in the 3-Meter synchro and Cassidy Krug in the women's 3-Meter. Their coach at Stanford, Rick Schavone will be one of Team USA's coaches.
In the men's final, the top three were separated by 2.4 points with one dive to go.
Chris Colwill won with a final three-round score of 1457.45 points. Colwill hit 9.5's on his final dive for 99.75 points, before Troy Dumais countered with 9.0's for 91.80 points and 1448.35 points. Ipsen, who had led until his fifth dive, hit four 9.0's on a reverse 1 ½ somersault and 3 ½ twist for 91.80 points and 1447.10 points.
Ipsen was edged by his 3-meter synchro teammate, Dumais, for the top two Olympic spots in the event.
The final dive was set up after Ipsen missed his reverse 3 ½ somersault tuck for just 4.5's after leading throughout the day. Dumais scored 8.5's and Colwill had 7.5's to create the log jam on the fifth of six dives. Ipsen entered Sunday's contest with a best of 993.80 points.
Stanford alum Dwight Dumais finished in sixth place with 1212.4 points, diving consistency all day paced by 7.5's or better in four of his six dives.
