COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.-- Stanford freshman Kristian Ipsen won his second-straight Zone Championship, winning the 1-Meter on Friday with a score of 823.10 as one of five Cardinal in the top-eight.
Ipsen beat Arizona's Ben Grado by 43.90 points, as his fellow Pac-12 foe scored a best of 779.20. Stanford freshman Connor Kuremsky started a strong string of four-straight finishers for the Cardinal, finishing fifth at 651.75. Taylor Sishc (647.60), Dhruv Tyagi (617.70) and Noah Garcia (610.20) followed. Larry Reinhard, Jr., rounded out the Cardinal divers with a tenth place showing (595.40).
Stephanie Phipps just missed the cut for the finals of the 1-meter, finishing 19th with a score of 265.85. Arizona's Ainsley Oliver was 18th in the prelims with a score of 268.55. Stanford freshman Sloane Brazina was 23rd with a score of 258.45.
Ipsen after three rounds was in first place, but slipped on a forward 3 ½ somersault, scoring 5.5's from the judges for a low of 53 points. Ipsen though rebounded with 7.5's on a reverse 2 ½ somersault for 73.60 points and 7.0's on a reverse 1 ½ somersault and 3 ½ twist for 75.25 points to close out the event in first place.
Kuremsky's best was 58.90 points followed by 58.50 points on his second and third dives, an inward 2 ½ somersault followed by a forward 2 ½ somersault. Sishc closed out his day with his best dive to remain in fifth place with 64.50 points on a reverse 1 ½ somersault and 2 ½ twist. Tyagi had a best on his final dive, 63.00 points on a reverse 1 ½ somersault and 2 ½ twist, scoring 7.0's from the judges. Garcia also finished off a strong day with 55.80 points on an inward 2 ½ somersault.
Ipsen led all divers in the prelims with a score of 410.75, edging Grado's score of 407.10. The other five Stanford divers were fifth through ninth in the prelims, separated by 26 points.
The platform finishes off the three-day event and also decides who advances to the NCAA Championships.
