Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford men's swimming and diving team notched another victory this afternoon with a 154-133 win over conference rival Arizona at the Avery Aquatic Center.

The Cardinal opened the meet with a convincing win in the 200 yard medley as the squad of Jayme Cramer, Gary Marshall, Peter Marshall and Ben Wildman-Tobriner turned in a winning time of 1:28.71. The relay team of Matt McDonald, Michael Bruce, Bobby O'Bryan and Andrew Schnell finished second (1:30.46). Senior swimmer Markus Rogan recorded the first individual win of the day with a victory in the 1000 yard freestyle (9:03.96). Teammates Shaun Phillips (9:11.53) and Michael McLean (9:17.84) placed second and third respectively.

Freshman Andy Grant took top honors in the 200 yard freestyle, clocking in at 1:38.44 to defeat Arizona's Simon Burnett (1:39.36). Sophomore Tobias Oriwol finished third (1:39.44). Stanford went 1-2 in the 100 yard backstroke won by senior Peter Marshall in a time of 47.93. Freshman Hongzhe Sun was second touching the wall in 50.05. The Cardinal again finished 1-2 in the 100 breaststroke as senior Michael Bruce (55.98) and junior Gary Marshall (56.15) led the field.

 

 

Junior Jayme Cramer claimed the top spot in the 200 yard butterfly, turning in a time of 1:46.29 while teammate Matt McDonald finished third (1:48.05) for the Cardinal. Stanford's top finisher in the 50 yard freestyle event was freshman Ben Wildman-Tobriner who placed second, clocking in at 20.47. Arizona's Alex Vollelunga won the men's one-meter diving event with a score of 318.82.

Freshman Ben Wildman-Tobriner recorded another second place finish - this time in the 100 yard freestyle in a time of 44.52. The Cardinal took top honors in the 200 yard backstroke as freshman Hongzhe Sun turned in a time of 1:45.43 to lead the field. Senior Michael Bruce won the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:01.20, followed closely by teammate Gary Marshall (2:01.48). Andy Grant notched his second individual win on the day with a victory in the 500 yard freestyle in a time of 4:25.57. Sophomore Michael McLean took second for the Cardinal (4:30.60).

Peter Marshall was also a multiple event winner as he picked up a victory in the 100 yard butterfly (47.66) edging fellow Cardinal Jayme Cramer (47.93). Junior Matt McDonald placed third in a time of 48.56. Arizona's Josh Anderson won the three-meter diving event (346.65) while freshman Kevin McLean posted the second best score of the day with a 269.25. Sophomore Tobias Oriwol turned in the fastest time in the 400 yard IM, clocking in at 3:55.47. Teammate Mark Stephens posted a time of 3:59.41.

In the final event of the day, Stanford's relay team of Markus Rogan, Peter Marshall, Ben Wildman-Tobriner and Bobby O'Bryan posted the second fastest time in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a 1:20.90.
