High School: Two-year letterwinner in swimming and also earned a varsity letter in basketball at Brentwood High... team captain his senior year led Brentwood to the state championship in the 200 free and 400 free relay titles in the process... also a state finalist in four individual events... as a junior, team finished eighth at state 200 free relay, also qualifying for the 50 freestyle... part of school-record 200 and 400 free relay teams.

Personal: Son of Mark and Suzy Spitz... has one older brother, Matt... father, Mark, was a nine-time Olympic gold medalist over two Games (1968, 1972), winning a record seven golds at the 1972 Munich Games. He set 33 world records in his career... cousin, David Weiner, played baseball at Cal... did not begin swimming competitively until his junior year of high school... majoring in economics.
