Stanford senior midfielder and defender Galen Thompson has been named
the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 3-9, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Thompson, from Denver, Colo., helped the Cardinal to a road sweep over Conference opponents this
weekend, shutting out both No. 9 Washington and Oregon State, 2-0, pushing Stanford's record to an
impressive 3-0-1 in Conference play. This marked Stanford's first road sweep of the season.
Over the weekend, Thompson scored two goals and two assists. Against the Huskies, he provided an assist to
Dan Shapiro's goal in the first half, then added an unassisted goal of his own during the second half.
Thompson followed up that performance with another goal and assist against the Beavers on Sunday. During
the 28th minute of play, he went on to score the go-ahead goal to notch his third goal of the season. Thompson
later added an assist in the second half on Bret Shimizu's goal.
Thompson leads the Cardinal in shots (21) and shots on goal (12) as well as total points (9).
Next up, Stanford takes on WASHINGTON on Fri., Oct. 13, followed by a rematch with Oregon State, Sun.,
Oct. 15.
This is Thompson's first weekly honor and the eighth all-time award for the Cardinal.
