STANFORD, Calif. -- Stanford men's soccer will kickoff its 2012 season in Friday night at San Francisco. The Cardinal will face the Dons at 7 p.m. at Negoesco Stadium.
Stanford is coming of a disappointing 6-10-2 season, but enters a new era under head coach Jeremy Gunn. Stanford's top returning scorer is Adam Jahn and along with fellow seniors Dersu Abolfathi, Eric Anderson and Hunter Gorskie are hoping to lead Stanford back to the NCAA tournament.
The Cardinal play USF each season as part of the Bay Area Classic and hold 14-15-6 all-time record against the Dons. A year ago, Stanford tied San Francisco 2-2 at Cagan Stadium.
USF is coming off a 6-10-3 season, but is a traditional power in men's soccer. The Dons have won five NCAA titles, most recently in 1980. San Francisco has also 32 conference titles, including its most recent West Coast Conference Championship in 2008.
