STANFORD, Calif. -- Stanford men's soccer will host No. 18 Saint Mary's on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m., at Cagan Stadium for its exhibition finale.
The Cardinal are coming off a 3-0 win over Sacramento State in its first exhibition game of the season. After a slow start, the Cardinal dominated that match, including outshooting the Hornets 18-2 in the second half.
Making his Stanford debut, Aaron Kovar, led Stanford with a goal and an assist. He assisted on Ty Thompson's goal in the first half and then finished his own on a great pass from Adam Jahn. The Cardinal put the game away when Hunter Gorskie put away a header off an Eric Anderson corner kick late in the game.
Stanford is entering a new era under Jeremy Gunn who is in his first season as head coach. If the Sacramento State game was any indication, it should be an exciting season. Gunn's team played attractive soccer, attacking relentlessly.
Saturday will be the final chance to see the Cardinal before it embarks on a tough stretch of four road games to begin the regular season. Stanford opens at San Francisco, before facing College of Charleston and No. 24 Furman at the College of Charleston Tournament. Stanford then returns to California to face No. 13 UC Irvine, before finally playing its home opener against San Jose State on September 12 at 7: p.m.
Saturday's game against Saint Mary's includes free admission for the exhibition contest. For tickets to the the regular season click HERE.
