Cardinal Continue Hot Streak
LAS VEGAS - Stanford defeated UNLV 1-0 to improve to perfect 3-0-0 on the season. The win extended the Cardinal's win streak to eight games, dating back to last season. The streak is the second longest in team history, one shy of the record of nine, which the 1980 and '81 squads combined to establish.
Just as hot as the team has been, so has junior forward A.J. Sauer. Sauer ended the game's scoring drought in the 80th minute with a ten-foot shot from the middle to give Stanford the 1-0 win against the host Rebels (0-2-0). The goal was Sauer's third of the tournament. He was assisted on the play by freshman Corey Woolfolk, who is making an immediate impact on the Cardinal program. After just three collegiate games, Woolfolk has already posted one goal and three assists, totaling 5 points. His point total ranks second on the squad to Sauer's six.
The Cardinal will take the field again when they travel to UC Santa Barbara on Fri., Sept. 12 at 7:00 Pacific Time.
