Stanford Extends Win Streak with Victory over UCSB

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- The 15th-ranked Stanford men's soccer team remained unbeaten on the season and ran its nation-best win streak to nine games, dating back to last season, with a 1-0 shutout of UC Santa Barbara. The nine consecutive victories ties the nine-game streak that bridged the 1980 and '81 squads for the school record.

Junior midfielder Simon Elliott's second goal of the season in the 22nd minute would prove to be all the offense the Cardinal would need en route to their third consecutive shutout. With the shutout, freshman goalie Adam Zapala, who hails from Bellarmine Prep in Cupertino, Calif., lowered his goals against average to a meager 0.25. The Cardinal goalie has not allowed an opponent to reach the back of the net since the 15th minute of the season-opener at San Jose State.

Stanford improves to a perfect 4-0-0 on the season while the Gauchos fell to 1-3-0.
