STANFORD, Calif. -- The goals came early and often for the fourth-ranked Stanford men's soccer team as it cruised to a 4-0 win over Saint Mary's (5-6-2) at New Maloney Field. With the win, the Cardinal (12-0-2) remained unbeaten on the season and extended its unbeaten streak to 19 games.

Stanford put the game away early with three goals in the first 18 minutes of the contest. Junior defender Eric Vandevelde (La Canada, CA/Loyola HS) got the scoring started, taking a cross from junior midfielder Aaron Jones (San Jose, CA/Leigh HS) and knocking it into the near post from 10 yards out at the 5:14 mark. Just over four minutes later, senior Erik Morrison (Carmicheal, CA/Jesuit HS) took an Adam Siegman (Scottsdale, AZ/Chaparrel HS) cross and fired it off the crossbar and into the back of the net for a 2-0 Cardinal lead. Siegman got in on the scoring side of the equation less than 10 minutes later with his second goal in as many games with a straight in, unassisted shot. On the other side of the ball, Saint Mary's was unable to generate much offense against the nation's top defense, managing just two shots in the first half.

The second half saw increased pressure from Stanford. While the Gaels did create more offensively than they had in the first half, this time getting off six shots on goal, it was again the Cardinal who dictated the pace of the game. By the final whistle, the Cardinal generated another 12 shots. Only the play of Gael goalkeeper Chris Beatty, who came off the bench to make four saves in the second stanza, kept the score down. Stanford freshman forward Corey Woolfolk (Ann Arbor, MI/Pioneer HS) did manage to find the back off the net however, heading in a Vandevelde cross into the far post for the final goal in the 74th minute.

Stanford freshman goalkeeper Adam Zapala (Cupertino, CA/Bellarmine Prep), who leads the nation in goals-against average, established a new school single-season record with his 11th shutout of the year. The old mark was held by Tom Austin, who posted 10 shutouts in 1985.
