Six Cardinal Garner Regional Academic All-America Honors
Six Stanford University men's soccer players received NSCAA Far West Region
Academic All-America honors, placing four on the first team and two on the
second team. The Cardinal honored with first team selections included junior
defender Jamie Clark (Hanover, NH/North Carolina), senior defender Dan Wytock
(San Jose, CA/Bellarmine Prep), junior midfielder Eric Vandevelde (La Canada,
CA/Loyola HS) and sophomore forward Brandon Garinger (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich
HS). Selected to the second team, which comprised just three student-athletes,
were senior defender Jason Roeder (Aurora, CO/Cherry Creek HS) and sophomore
midfielder Andy Hemmerich (Del Mar, CA/Torrey Pines HS). Garinger and Hemmerich
were the only sophomores to make the lists.
To be nominated for All-America honors, a student-athlete must have at least
a 3.2 grade point average (based on a 4.0 scale for his/her academic career) and
must have completed one full year at his/her current institution and be
currently enrolled in courses. Athletic accomplishments were also taken into
consideration. All-America selections are open to student-athletes from all
NCAA divisions.
