STANFORD, Calif. -
The Stanford men's gymnastics team enters the 2013 season ranked fifth in GymInfo's preseason poll and are poised to challenge for an MPSF and NCAA championship.
Stanford received two first-place votes and was ranked second-highest of the four MPSF teams behind No. 3 Oklahoma. California and Air Force were ranked sixth and 11th, respectively.
After a 2012 season that included a second-place MPSF and a fifth-place NCAA finish, the Cardinal returns its entire roster, including nine All-Americans and three-time NCAA individual champion Eddie Penev. Stanford also welcomes six freshmen to the squad.
The team will be led by head coach Thom Glielmi who enters his 11th season with the Cardinal and has won two national titles while producing 13 NCAA individual champions and 73 All-Americans.
Stanford begins its 2013 season on Jan. 14 at rival California. The Cardinal opens its home slate on Jan. 19 and will play host to California, Oklahoma and Nebraska.
