STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford's men's gymnastics team announced the signing of Akash Modi to a National Letter of Intent in the 2013 incoming freshman class announced head coach Thom Glielmi.

Modi trains at Monmouth Gymnastics under Yuriv Aminov. The Morganville, N.J. native took second in all-around at the 2012 USA Championships, and third at the 2012 Men's Junior Olympic National Championships. He was a member of the U.S. team at the 2012 Junior Pan American Championships, the Kellogg's Pacific Rim Championships and helped the U.S. team defeat Canada at the 2012 Junior Team competition.

"Akash is a great addition to the team," said Glielmi. "He has big routines on parallel bars and pommel horse, and he's a solid all-arounder to boot. We are expecting an immediate impact on the training environment and anticipate him providing the team with big scores."

The team begins its 2013 schedule January 13, when it travels to Berkeley to take on Cal.
