Stanford, Calif. - Cardinal head coach Thom Glielmi is pleased to announce that two athletes have signed national letters of intent to compete for Stanford beginning in the fall of 2011. Brian Knott and Alex Strait will join Stanford starting next season.

"The future of Stanford gymnastics is bright with these recruits," said Gliemi.

Knott hails from New York City and competed for Chelsea Piers Gymnastics.

"Brian is a tremendous athlete," said Glielmi. "We are extremely pleased he has chosen to become a part of the Stanford family. I anticipate Brian making an immediate impact in the gym. He is aggressive, hard working and inventive - all characteristics that will serve him and the Stanford program well."

Strait hails from Katy, Texas where he competed for Champions Gymnastics.

"Alex is one of the top all-around gymnasts in the country," said Glielmi. "He really does not have a weak event and I expect Alex to challenge the line-up on every event if not contribute on all six."

The Cardinal will get their season underway beginning on January 7, when it faces California in a dual meet. After coming up just short of repeating as national champions last year, Stanford enters 2011 as the No. 1 ranked team in the country.
