Lucas Hughes Signs With Stanford
Nov. 16, 2005 Stanford Men's Gymnastics announces the signing of Lucas Hughes to the Class of 2010. Hughes has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Cardinal squad in 2006-07. "Luke is an exceptional gymnast and individual," said head coach Thom Glielmi. "He executes technical gymnastics in a way that is fun to watch. He is an athlete with an excellent future due to his solid foundation. He already has dynamic skills on parallel bars and horizontal bar and I know he has more impressive elements on the backburner. His impact on the team will be immediate in the gym and out." A 2002 Junior National Team member, Hughes finished ninth all-around in the 16-18 year-old division at the 2005 USA Championships. He also finished third on the parallel bars, seventh on the pommel horse and eighth on the floor exercise. "There were no short cuts in the work Luke and his coach have done," said Glielmi. "It is obvious Luke trains his skills with an attention to detail that requires tremendous amounts of time and effort. I can only say that this style of training has a huge upside, one which we are excited to be a part of." Hughes trains at 5280 Gymnastics in Denver, Colo. under Vladimir Artemev, one of the Senior National Team coaches. He plans to pursue Aerospace Engineering once at Stanford.
