Stanford graduate David Durante, along with current Cardinal gymnasts David Sender and Sho Nakamori, were impressive in the first day of the USA Gymnastics Championships in San Jose, California. Durante ended the first day in a tie for first place in the All-Around competition while Nakamori and Sender finished fourth and fifth respectively, in the same event.
In the individual events, Durante finished tied for fifth in the pommel horse and had another fifth place finish in the still rings. The former Cardinal won the parallel bars competition with a score of 14.45 and finished the day with a fourth place finish in the horizontal bar that included a double-twisting, double-layout dismount.
Sender, a senior from Arlington Heights, TX, won the vault competition and finished sixth in the parallel bars. Nakamori, a senior from Albany, CA, won the pommel horse with a score of 15.0 and finished second in the horizontal bar with a score of 14.6.
