STANFORD, Calif. -
Stanford men's gymnast Eddie Penev was named the College Gymnastics Association Gymnast of the Week as the nation's top collegiate gymnast for the second consecutive week, as announced by the organization Wednesday.
It is Penev's third honor this season and fifth in his career.
Penev had a terrific weekend, leading Stanford to a season-high team score of 438.600 against No. 14 Army and Springfield in West Point, N.Y.
Penev claimed individual victories in floor and the all-around with season-bests of 16.050 and 89.100. Penev's all-around score was just one-tenth lower than his career-high (89.200) and is the second-highest individual score of gymnasts ranked in the top-20 this season.
Penev also earned a career-best on pommel horse (14.700), tied a career-high on high bar (14.800), set a season-high on rings (14.750) and earned a 15.200 on vault.
Penev ranks first in the nation in floor (15.900 avg.), vault (15.367) and the all-around (88.750). He ranks 14th in parallel bars (14.883) and 18th in high bar (14.717).
Stanford will head to Norway for its next competition, as it takes on the Norwegian and Italian national teams on March 23. The Cardinal will return stateside for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships on April 6.
