Stanford, Calif. - The No. 2 Stanford men's gymnastics team hits the road this weekend for a pair of tri-meets. The Cardinal begin weekend by facing Air Force and Illinois-Chicago on Friday, March 5, in Colorado Springs. Next, the Cardinal will head to Lincoln, Neb., to face Nebraska and No. 1 Oklahoma on Sunday, March 7, at 12 noon.
Stanford is coming off a convincing win over No. 1 Michigan in its home season finale. While it was a big win for Stanford, head coach Thom Glielmi is looking at the big picture.
"Yes of course we are happy with the win, but we are more focused on where we are at and where we are going," said Glielmi. "It was a good meet for us to build from and that is the plan."
Tim Gentry leads Stanford, recently being named MPSF Gymnast of the Week. Gentry is currently the No. 2 ranked gymnast in the nation on both rings and vault. Other Stanford gymnasts ranked in the top-10 nationally include: Eddie Penev (third) and Alex Buscaglia (10th) on the floor, James Fosco (eighth) on rings, Penev (third), Buscaglia (sixth) and Josh Dixon (10th) on vault, Nicholas Noone (fourth) and Ryan Lieberman (eighth) on parallel bars, and Buscaglia (third) on the horizontal bar.
The Cardinal will look to continue to improve the execution of its routines and find the ideal lineup for the NCAA Championships in mid-April.
