Oakland, Calif. - No. 4 Stanford had a strong showing at the Pacific Coast Classic, placing second overall, but the top collegiate team. A group of Japanese all-stars took the meet title, but the Cardinal earned wins over California, Iowa, Arizona State and Washington.
The Japanese team totaled 358.8 points, while the Cardinal came in second with 354.7. Cal was next closest with 349.45 points.
Stanford did its best work on rings and vault, where it had the best score of any team. The Cardinal totaled 63.050 points on the vault and 59.55 on rings.
Tim Gentry was the catalyst on rings, earning the top score of any gymnast with a mark of 15.45. Gentry finished second in the all-around with a score of 88.5. Gentry also excelled on the vault with a score of 15.9.
Also faring well in the all-around was Josh Dixon, who placed fifth. Dixon had a consistent evening with his top score coming in the vault with a mark of 15.7. He also led the Cardinal on horizontal bar with a score of 14.8.
Other top scorers for Stanford included Alex Buscaglia on vault (16.05), Eddie Penev in the floor exercise (15.4), Lucas Hughes on pommel horse (14.45) and Cameron Foreman on parallel bars (14.4).
The Cardinal will return to Burnham Pavilion next Saturday, February 27, when it faces Michigan in a dual meet at 7:00 pm.
