Stanford, Calif. - The No. 1 Stanford men's gymnastics team began the regular season with a convincing win over No. 2 California on Friday night in Berkeley. Stanford took home the high score on four of the six apparatuses to earn a 352.75 to 340.1 victory.

Tim Genty led Stanford with the top score on two apparatuses. Gentry led all competitors with a score of 16.1 on vault as well as a score of 15.65 on rings. Gentry finished with an all-around score of 86.450.

Despite the two event wins, Gentry did not lead the all-around, instead Ryan Lieberman took that honor. Lieberman finished with a score of 87.1. Lieberman led all competitors on high bar with a score of 14.85.

The other event winner was Eddie Penev in the floor exercise. Penev finished with a score of 15.6 to take the title in his debut for the Cardinal.

Cal finished with the top score pommel horse and parallel bars. However, leading for Stanford were Eric Hergenrader on pommel horse (14.25) and Josh Dixon on parallel bars (14.6).

The Cardinal will be back in action next Saturday, January 23, at 7:00 p.m., when they once again face California, this time at Burnahm Pavilion.
