Stanford senior Steve Ziegler tied for 12th at the Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic held at the El Paso (Texas) Country Club, eight strokes behind first place finisher Alex Ching of the University of San Diego.
After opening with a two-over 73 on the par-71, 6,864 yard El Paso Country Club layout, Ziegler carded back-to-back rounds of 68 to finish at 209 (-4) for the 54-hole event.
J.T. Griffin of Georgia Tech and Tain Lee of Claremont Mudd Scripps finished three strokes behind Ching at 204. Lee was in the lead or tied for first for 48 of the 54 holes of the tournament.
Ching, who finished last in this event a year ago, collected 15 birdies over three days to become the first USD and West Coast Conference player to win the event.
