SAN MARTIN, Calif. - Stanford's men's golf team remained in second place at the Gifford Intercollegiate Golf Championship at Cordevalle after a second round 355. Stanford fired an opening round 353 and is two-under for the tournament, trailing first-place UCLA by nine strokes.
Cameron Wilson maintained a firm grip on first place after a record-setting opening round 61. The junior carded a second-day 74 (-7), and holds a two-stroke lead over Tennessee's Rick Lamb and UCLA's Pontus Widegren.
Patrick Rodgers and Patrick Grimes, competing as an individual, are tied for ninth. Rodgers started his round with three bogeys in the first four holes. He rebounded with a string of ten consecutive pars before making four birdies to close out the round. Grimes eagled the sixth hole and made three birdies over the next six holes on his way to a 66, the low score for the day.
Freshmen Dominick Francks and David Boote are tied for 14th, one-over par. Both golfers improved on their opening round scores, Francks by five strokes (74-69) and Boote by one (72-71).
Shane Lebow is tied for 50th after rounds of 79-71 (150, +8).
Steve Kearney is tied for 54th after shooting 74-77 (151, +9).
