The Stanford men's golf team finished play in 12th place with a 291 in the first day of The Prestige at the Desert Willow Golf Resort on Monday. UC Davis and Kansas both fired 10-under pars, 278, to share the lead following the first round of play. Rounding off the top five are Washington (280), Colorado (281) and TCU (282).
Kansas' Travis Hurst fired an eight-under 64 today to claim the top shot in the individual leaderboard. He is followed by North Carolina's Dustin Bray (65), San Diego's David Isaacson (67) and UC Davis' Jason Boyd (67).
The Cardinal were lead by Philip Rowe (35-35) who fired a two-under 70 today to tie for 12th. Jim Seki (36-37) and Blake Mastalir (37-36) shot a one-over 73 and are tied for 42nd. Kevin Blue (37-38) and Pat Phillips (36-39) each shot a three-over 75.
Monday's schedule called for two rounds to be played, however, the first round took over five hours and players were on the course with four holes left when darkness halted play. The second round will be completed Tuesday morning immediately followed by 18 holes to finish round three.
The Prestige, hosted by UC Davis and Stanford, is in its second year of bringing together 20 of the nation's top academic and golf-playing universities.
