No. 8 Cardinal Faces Nation's Best at Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational
Oct. 19, 2007
Stanford, Calif. - The No. 8 Stanford men's golf team heads to the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational next week, aiming for its first tournament win and fourth consecutive top-five finish. Action begins on Sunday with 18 holes at the 7,493-yard, par-72 Isleworth Golf and Country Club in Windermere, Fla. and continues with another 18 holes on both Monday and Tuesday. The Cardinal is coming off of its highest finish of the year, taking second place at The Prestige at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif. earlier this week. Stanford has finished in the top five in all three of its previous fall tournaments. The Cardinal is led by senior Rob Grube, who boasts two top-10 finishes already this year and paces the squad with a 71.6 stroke average. Grube, freshman Sihwan Kim and junior Daniel Lim are all currently ranked among the nation's top-50 players. Each year, the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational invites only the top college golf teams from around the country to compete, and this year is no different. The 18-team field is one of the most competitive in the nation, as 14 teams are currently ranked in the top-50 and six, including the No. 8 Cardinal, are currently among the top-10. Sixteen of the 18 teams participated in last year's NCAA Championship, and seven finished in the top-15 last year. In addition to Stanford, the field includes No. 3 Georgia Tech, No. 4 Georgia, No. 5 Oklahoma State, No. 6 Florida State, No. 9 USC, No. 11 Texas A&M, No. 17 Wake Forest, No. 19 South Carolina, No. 34 Clemson, No. 40 Arizona State, No. 41 East Tennessee State, No. 44 UCF and No. 45 Texas. The field is rounded out by Arizona, Illinois, Kentucky and SMU. Isleworth is consistently ranked the longest and toughest course in the state by the Florida State Golf Association (FSGA), proving to challenge the NCAA's best players. Last year, Texas took home the title at the tournament, with Georgia's Brian Harman taking top medalist honors.
