Final Stats

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. - Patrick Rodgers defended his title and No. 10 (Golf Week) Stanford tied for fourth at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational. The Cardinal carded rounds of 297-285-291 (+33) to finish 19 strokes behind first-place Arkansas.

Rodgers, who won at Olympia Fields a year ago in his first collegiate competition, got stronger with each round. Opening with a 72, the sophomore shot 68-67 to finish three-under par (207), besting the five competitors who tied for second by five strokes. Rodgers birdied three of his first seven holes and posted his fourth birdie of the day on 18, the only competitor to finsh under par. The victory is his third in 13 career starts.

Freshman David Boote tied for seventh in his first collegiate competition. The Surrey, England native carded rounds of 73-70-71 (214, +4) and made birdie on two of his final four holes. Boote finished as the top true freshman in the event.

Knowles Family Director of Men's Golf Conrad Ray was encouraged by the performance of Rodgers and Boote, but acknowledged the work that lies ahead.

"The conditions were tough in the final round and the guys hung in there, said Ray. "It was a very impressive round by Patrick Rodgers to grab the individual title. Also, David Boote had a very solid week in his first collegiate event. We have a lot of work to do as a team but I feel like we are up for the challenge. We really appreciate the hospitality that the staff and membership extended us during our stay at Olympia Fields. It is one of the best clubs in the country."

Steve Kearney tied for 56th. The senior carded rounds of 79-73-77 (229, +19).

Shane Lebow finished tied for 65th after rounds of 79-78-76 (233, +23).

The Cardinal is back in action October 8-9 at the Pac-12 Preview in Portland, Ore.
