OLYPMIA FIELDS, Ill. - Stanford's men's golf team bettered yesterday's performance by 12 strokes and is tied for seventh after the second round of the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational. The Cardinal is 21 shots behind Arkansas who has an opened up a 12-stroke lead over second place Auburn.

Defending champion Patrick Rodgers fired a 68 (-2), making two birdies and no bogies in his best round of the young season. Rodgers, starting on the tenth hole, played the first eleven holes at even par before making birdie on three and seven to pull within three strokes of leader Sebastian Cappelen of Arkansas. Rodgers is two-under (70-68) with one round remaining.

Freshman David Boote finished with an even-par 70 and sits at three-over, good for a share of ninth place.

Andre DeDecker carded a second-round 74 (+4). DeDecker is tied with six golfers for 29th.

Steve Kearney bettered yesterday's 79 by six strokes. The senior is 12-over for the tournament and is tied for 54th.

Shane Lebow shot a 78 to go with yesterday's 79. He is 17-over and tied for 68th.
