UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. -
David Chung was one of the hottest players in this week's field at the U.S. Amateur, having captured titles at the Porter Cup and Western Amateur earlier this summer.
After defeating defending NCAA champion Scott Langley in the quarterfinals, Chung is now just two wins away from capturing the most presitgious title in amateur golf.
In a tighly contest quarterfinal match, Chung used a par on hole No. 14 to take a 1-up lead over Langley, who won the NCAA individual title at the Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tenn. last spring.
Chung extended his lead to 2-up with a birdie on the par-3 15th hole, only to see Langley cut the lead to 1-up with a birdie of his own on No. 17.
The players halved hole No. 18 with pars, sending Chung to Saturday's semifinals, where he will face defending U.S. Amateur Byeong-Hun An of Korea beginning at 8:00 a.m.
The winner will advance to Sunday's 36-hole championship match.
Saturday's semifinal and Sunday's championship match will be carried by the Golf Channel. Please check local listings for details.
