The No. 2 Stanford men's golf team shot rounds of 284 and 285 after 36 holes of the 30th annual USC Collegiate Invitational at North Ranch C.C. in Westlake Village, Calif., on Monday to sit in second place overall at one-over par 569. No. 8 USC leads the field with an even par 568. No. 7 UCLA, which shot a first-round low 281, is in third at 570 (+2) while Tennessee, tied with the Cardinal after the first round in second place, is now in fourth at 574 (+4). The next closest team is California in fifth at 585 (+17).
Loyola Marymount's Brian Locke and USC's Jamie Lovemark lead the field of individuals at six-under par 136.
Stanford's Zack Miller posted a first round of 73 and a blistering second round of 67 for a two-under par 140 which places him seventh. In Miller's second round he posted five birdies, including four on the front nine. Checking in tied for 11th is freshman Joseph Bramlett who sits at one-over par 143 (70-73).
Cardinal Matt Savage is tied for 17th individually after two rounds with a three-over par 145 (72-73) while teammate Rob Grube is tied for 25th with a four-over par 146 (74-72). Stanford's Daniel Lim is also tied for 25th (69-77--146). Matt Shin, competing as an individual, is tied for 55th with a 152 (74-78).
Stanford's last tournament title at this event was in 1995. The Cardinal's last individual medalist here was in 1996 when Tiger Woods claimed top honors.
Tournament play will conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday with a 7:15 a.m. start off the 1st and 10th tees on North Ranch's par-71, 6,900-yard course.
