Maynard runs out of the pocket to buy time, and throws down the middle, but Stanford's Delano Howell is called for pass interference for going over the back of a receiver and Cal has the ball at Stanford's 46.

Facing a fourth-and-2 at the Cal 17, Stanford appears it will go for it, but calls its last timeout with 3:12 left. Jordan Williamson will try a 35-yard field goal from the right hashmark. He made it.
Fourth quarter (4:24 left): Stanford 28, Cal 21
Stanford takes over at its 26. Stepfan Taylor is stuffed for a two-yard loss and Stanford is having some difficulty running on this Cal defense. Andrew Luck doesn't like what he sees and calls a timeout on second-and-12.
Luck rolls right and hits Coby Fleener running across the field for 12 yards and a first down, and moments later faces a third-and-1 at its 47. Fullback Ryan Hewitt picks it up though, off left tackle.
Luck hits Hewitt off play action for 10 and moves the ball to the Cal 37 as the clocks ticks under 7:00. Again, Stanford gets little on a first-down, but Luck goes to Hewitt again, this time for eight, creating a third-and-1 at the 29.
Hewitt picks up the first down on a run to the 25. Gaffney doesn't get much on first down, but the clock is now under 5:00. Gaffney lines up in the Wildcat, but there's confusion and he calls a timeout, Stanford's second, with 4:24 left.

Cal goes for the two-point conversion and Maynard's pass is caught low by Marvin Jones.
Fourth quarter (13:25 left): Stanford 28, Cal 13
The last play of the half was under a review after Isi Sofele ran for 11 yards. Officials overturned the call that he was down, and instead ruled that he fumbled. Stanford's Delano Howell recovered.
Stanford, however, faces a third-and-4 at the Cal 33. Taylor is stopped short. However, the Cardinal goes for it, with two yards to go and the Taylor is stopped for a yard loss. Aaron Tipoti was in there first.
End of third quarter: Stanford 28, Cal 13
Cal takes over at the 20 and moves to midfield. On third down and 10, Zach Maynard finds tight end Anthony Miller, but Delano Howell and Michael Thomas stop him three yards short. The Bears go for it, and Maynard is sacked by Jarek Lancaster. Maynard rolled left and had Marvin Jones open briefly, but waited too long to throw, perhaps thinking for a moment that he could run for the first down.
Stanford takes over at the 50, but can't move the ball. Andrew Luck rifled the ball toward Drew Terrell on third down, but the pass was broken up.
A Stanford punt gives the ball to Cal at its own 17, but the Bears immediately are faced with a third-and-11, but Zach Maynard weaves his way for a first down as the rain begins to come down.

Luck hits Ty Montgomery on a crossing route for a good gain. On the next play, Luck goes play action and has Levine Toilolo wide open on the same play as the first quarter. Again, the ball falls incomplete with nothing but space between Toi.lolo and the end zone. This time, Toilolo dropped the ball.
On third-and-6 at the Cal 45, Luck rolls left and hits Coby Fleener for 23 to the 21.

Luck's pass to the deep left corner to Montgomery fell incomplete, setting up a 33-yard field-goal try by Jordan Williamson, who missed wide left with 50 seconds left.
That was the first time Stanford has not scored this season when inside the 20-yard line.

Anthony Wilkerson rips off a 21-yard gain on his first carry. Andrew Luck finds Ryan Hewitt for eight. Luck gains eigtht on a run and Stepfan Taylor gains a first down on the next play to the Cal 35.
Tyler Gaffney gains 19 up the middle to the 6. On the next play, Gaffney carried again, scoring behind blocks by Jonathan Martin and Tyler Mabry and Stanford takes the lead.
Second quarter (10:40 left): Cal 13, Stanford 7
Cal has a first-and-20 at the Stanford 37 when Zach Maynard, under pressure, throws to C.J. Anderson just before the quarterback is pushed out of bounds. The play gains 19 yards to the 18. Maynard sneaks for a yard and the first down.
A handoff to receiver Marvin Jones, who looked to throw ball, ended in a nine-yard loss to the 26, but Jones makes up for it with a 19-yard reception to the 7.
Two Isi Sofele runs gain five yards, setting up a third-and-goal at the 2. Maynard was pressured by Ben Gardner, and his throw into the end zone was broken up by A.J. Tarpley, though it would have been incomplete.

Luck overthrows Whalen on a deep sideline route. Moments later, Luck is sacked on third down for a 14-yard loss by Mychal Kendricks and Stanford must punt.
First quarter (5:53 left): Cal 10, Stanford 7
This, so far, is not one of Andrew Luck's best days. Luck overthrew Griff Whalen on a potential long gain (he overthrew Levine Toilolo earlier) and then threw an interception to cornerback Steve Williams.
Receiver Ty Montgomery fell on the play and Williams ran it 49 yards for a touchdown. However, two Cal penalties on the return negated the score, but Cal took over at the Stanford 17.
Shortly after, Zach Maynard lofted a pass to the deep right corner and Keenan Allen ran under it for a 15-yard score.
First quarter (7:12 left): Stanford 7, Cal 3
Cal methodically moved down the field, reaching the Stanford 8-yard line before settling for a 25-yard field goal by Giorgio Tavecchio.
First quarter (13:42 left): Stanford 7, Cal 0
A wild beginning to the game began on the first play from scrimmage when Cal quarterback Zach Maynard went deep to his brother, Keenan Allen, who caught the ball after a collision with defender Johnson Bademosi. The play went for 42 yards.
However, on the next play, Maynard's pitch to Isi Sofele was wild and Stanford's Ben Gardner recovered the ball amid a scramble.
Stanford took possession on its own 37 yard line and quarterback Andrew Luck connected with Ty Montgomery for a 12-yard gain. On the next play, Luck rolled right against the grain and had tight end Levine Toilolo wide open, with no defenders anywhere on that side of the field, but Luck overthrew him.
But on the next play, Montgomery carried the ball on a reverse and found room down the left sideline, running all the way to the end zone to complete a 34-yard touchdown run.
Jordan Williamson, back in action after missing games with an injury, kicked the extra point.
It's 15 minutes before kickoff of the 114th Big Game and it's has begun to rain. Stanford is 9-1 and Cal is 6-4.
The Axe has just made its way on to the field, held aloft by the Stanford Axe Committee.
