Toby Gerhart ranks third in the nation in rushing average,

STANFORD, Calif. - For the second week in a row, Stanford senior running back Toby Gerhart has been named the Pacific-10 Conference's Player of the Week.

Gerhart rushed for 178 yards and three touchdowns in Stanford's 55-21 win over 11-th ranked USC on Saturday. He also added a reception for nine yards. Gerhart keyed a Cardinal rushing attack that finished with 325 yards on the ground along with 469 yards in total offense.

Gerhart also earned conference offensive player of the week honors following his 223-yard rushing performance in Stanford's 51-42 win over Oregon on Nov. 7.

UCLA linebacker Akeem Ayers and Cal place kicker Giorgio Tavecchio were also honored.

Stanford, ranked 14th in the AP Top 25 poll, return home this Saturday to face the California Golden Bears in the 112th Big Game. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. at Stanford Stadium.
