Go behind the scenes and learn how the Athletic Department staff prepares for the 2004 football season. Each week, Cardinal Commitment will feature a different member of the staff that will discus his/her role with the Stanford Football program. Kyle McRae (Media Relations Assistant Director) is this week's guest.
CC: What are you doing on a daily basis to prepare for the upcoming football game?
KM: There are several things I do in preparation for each football game. Some of my primary duties include issuing media credentials, arranging player interviews, supervising the football stats crew and overseeing the football information posted on gostanford.com. That's just the beginning ... it's pretty busy.
CC: What is your most important job on game day?
KM: All of the jobs I do during the week carry over to game day, and they are all important. But, the most important thing is just to make sure that the members of the media covering the game are taken care of. Our entire staff has the responsibility of doing this.
CC: If you could tell the average fan one thing about Stanford Football that they may not know, what would that be?
KM: I would tell the average fan that the players, coaches and staff members involved with Stanford Football have a tremendous passion to see the program succeed and dedicate themselves to the process. It is also a very pleasant group of people to be working so hard with.
CC: What is your most memorable Stanford Football experience?
KM: It probably would all come from the 1999 season and the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day in 2000. I started at Stanford in October of 1999 and was invited to a football game just before that where I witnessed Joe Borchard come off the bench and throw five touchdowns in a victory over UCLA. I was also on the field during the Rose Bowl against Wisconsin. Both of those experiences were very memorable, as is the day-to-day process of working with the team today.
CC: What is your Stanford Football goal? What do you want to achieve this season?
KM: As most people do, I really want this team to make a Bowl Game, and see the satisfaction and optimism that would bring to the program and all involved with it. Many people have worked so hard to try to make that happen, and it would be so great to see them rewarded. Not to get too greedy, but I would also like to win that Bowl Game, and while we're at it a win in the Big Game against an excellent California team would make the season even better.
CC: What does "Cardinal Commitment" mean to you?
KM: Cardinal Commitment means everyone doing the best they can do and working together to help the Stanford Football program achieve success.
