STANFORD, Calif.-- Strong Safety Delano Howell was one of 37 members on the initial watch list for the Jim Thorpe Award, while Shayne Skov, David DeCastro and Jonathan Martin were named to the watch list for the Rotary Lombardi Award.

DeCastro was a first team All-Pac-10 pick as a sophomore and along with Martin anchor an offensive line that has given up 13 sacks over the last two years. Both are two-year starters. Skov was an honorable mention All-Pac-10 pick in 2010, leading the team with 84 tackles.

For Howell and Skov, they are also on the watch lists for the Bednarik Award and Nagurski Trophy, both honoring top defensive players.

Martin and DeCastro are also on the Outland Trophy watch list, named for the best interior lineman.

Celebrating its 25th Anniversary, the Thorpe Award was named after one of the greatest all-around atthletes, who not only was a running back, passer, kicker and defensive back, but also a pro baseball player and gold medalist in the decathlon and pentathlon. The award will be announced on December 8.

The Lombardi Awards is limited to down linemen, end-to-end, either on offense of defense, who set up no farther than 10 yards to the left or right of the ball, and linebackers who set up no father than five yards deep from the line of scrimmage. The 42nd Rotary Lombardi Award will be held on December 6-7, 2011 at Reliant Center in Houston, Texas.
