STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford's Bradford M. Freeman Director of Football David Shaw has announced the hiring of Morgan Turner as the Cardinal's tight ends coach.
Turner replaces Ron Crook, who recently accepted a position in his home state at West Virginia University. Turner enters his third season with the Stanford coaching staff and fourth year overall with the program.
Before being elevated, he served as an offensive assistant in 2011 and 2012 after having served prior as a strength and conditioning intern in 2010.
"Morgan Turner has worked extremely hard here and has been invaluable to us with the offense," said Shaw. "He worked closely with (Andrew Luck Director of Offense / Offensive Coordinator) Mike Bloomgren in the run game the past two years. This is a great opportunity for a bright, young coach who our players know and respect. We're pleased that Morgan was able to pass up other opportunities to stay here with us at Stanford."
Prior to his arrival at Stanford, Turner spent the 2009 season as the quarterbacks coach at Indiana State, where he worked under head coach Trent Miles and offensive coordinator and former Stanford All-America flanker Troy Walters.
In 2008, Turner served as the quarterback coach and scout team coordinator for Central High School in Champaign, Ill., where he helped Central to a berth in the Illinois State playoffs.
A 2009 graduate of the University of Illinois, Turner served as a student coach for the Fighting Illini during the 2004 season. He also coached the freshman quarterbacks during summer workouts during 2003 and '04.
A native of Champaign, Ill., Morgan received his bachelors of science degree in finance from Illinois in 2009.
The Cardinal began spring practice on Monday, Feb. 25. The Cardinal & White Spring Game will be held April 13 at 3 p.m. Besides the spring game, three additional Saturday practices will be opened to the public: March 2, March 9 and April 6 - times and locations to be announced @StanfordFball on Twitter.
