Stanford University's Bradford M. Freeman Director of Football and head coach Jim Harbaugh today named Greg Roman an assistant coach on the Cardinal staff. He will serve as the team's run game coordinator and will also work with the tight ends and offensive tackles.

In addition, Harbaugh announced Tim Drevno will serve as offensive line coach. Drevno had worked with the tight ends for the last two seasons.

Roman, 36, brings 13 years of NFL coaching experience to his position at Stanford. He most recently served as the assistant offensive line coach of the Baltimore Ravens from 2006-07 and also spent four seasons on the coaching staff of the Houston Texans, where he served as the tight ends (2002-03) and quarterbacks coach (2004-05). Roman began his coaching career with the Carolina Panthers, where he served as a defensive and offensive assistant coach from 1995-01.

"We are excited to welcome Greg Roman to our staff here at Stanford," said Harbaugh. "With thirteen years of NFL coaching experience, Coach Roman brings a wealth of expertise in many different areas, something that is difficult to find. He has a track record of developing NFL players at many different positions to learn play to their potential. As we continue to build our program to a championship level, the inclusion of people that embody what Stanford represents is critical. After visiting with Greg and his family, it is clear that his team-oriented approach, experience, expertise, and passion for the game will be a great fit for Stanford University."

"I am very proud and excited to join Coach Harbaugh and the Stanford family in their pursuit of excellence," said Roman. "When offered this opportunity, my decision was a simple one. The day-to-day environment and standard Coach Harbaugh has brought to the program is as unique and exciting as the University itself. After many years of coaching in the National Football League, I am looking forward to devoting my energies to the Stanford football program and helping it reach its full potential."

A native of Ventnor, NJ, Roman was a defensive lineman at John Carroll University from 1990-93.
