Trojans Roll Past Stanford, 45-21
LOS ANGELES - Delon Washington and R. Jay Soward each scored two touchdowns as
Southern California overcame a big day by Stanford receiver Troy
Walters for a 45-21 Pac-10 Conference victory.
Washington had one-yard touchdown runs in the first and second
quarters around an 18-yard scoring scamper by Daylon McCutcheon
that erased an early deficit and gave USC a 21-7 lead.
Soward took a reverse 23 yards for a touchdown and hauled in a
30-yard TD pass from backup John Fox just over three minutes
apart in the fourth quarter, building the lead to 45-14.
Coming off its first shutout loss since 1990, the Trojans (5-4,
3-3 Pac-10) also received 109 yards on seven carries from Chad
Morton, the brother of former USC star Johnnie Morton, as they
improved to 52-21-3 in the all-time series.
Walters caught 11 passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns and
also returned a punt 66 yards for a score for Stanford (4-5,
2-4), which has lost four straight games. During that slide,
the Cardinal have committed 17 turnovers.
