Head Coach Buddy Teevens:
On the game:
"Oregon is a good football team and we knew it coming in. We put ourselves in position to have success and our guys competed for four quarters. Offensively, we didn't play very well in the first half, but I thought the guys rallied and competed. Oregon was able to drive the ball a couple of times in the second half which hurt, but I felt we competed and made plays. We were in position to tie it up and put the game into overtime, but it didn't happen."
On play of T.C. Ostrander:
"T.C. Ostrander came in and I feel that he did a fine job. He made some good decisions. He's a young guy and came under a lot of pressure, but I thought he responded well. At the end of the ball game, he has 16 seconds and he stands up like a pro. He makes two quick completions and puts us in a position to have an opportunity to tie the game.
On play of offensive line:
"We went up against a good defensive outfit with big physical kids. They competed and I thought they rallied and played better in the second half. They pushed a lot better in the second half, but it just wasn't enough."
Quarterback T.C. Ostrander:
On Oregon's ability to pressure the quarterback:
On the Oregon defense:
"They brought some blitzes and they were pretty tough. There were some times where I was holding onto the ball longer than I should have, but I thought our offensive line did a great job of blocking."
On playing after the injury to Trent Edwards:
"I felt pretty good out there. I was prepared to go in there and play and got the opportunity. Unfortunately it didn't work out, but that's the way it goes sometimes."
Tight End Alex Smith:
On the last drive of the game:
"I really felt that if we could stop them, then we would have a shot at it. We never gave up and we knew if we had one more chance that we could make it happen. "
"I just think they had a good defense for our offense. It kind of disrupted us all day. We'd get drives going and then we'd find ourselves in third-and-long situations. They got to us a couple times and stuck with what was successful for them."
On performance of T.C. Ostrander:
"He stepped up big time. I can't commend him enough. He stepped in and made the plays when he had to and had some big passes. I'm proud of the job he did until the last snap. He drove us down the field at the end and got it done."
On the weather:
"It wasn't a factor. It's rained all week, so we were prepared for it."
Head Coach Mike Bellotti: We battled. We have that competitive spirit. We made a couple of mistakes that allowed Stanford to get ahead. They had a good second half and fourth quarter to their credit. They made this thing very interesting. We couldn't quite finish what we wanted to do. We battled today. Jared Siegel made the difference-making field goal. Overall, the team handled the elements well and beat a good Stanford team.
I was very pleased with the fourth down conversions we made. We had a close ball game and the way it went in the fourth quarter shows that we have a lot of character as a team.
Overall, I think we ran the ball well. We got stronger and efficient as the game went on. To Stanford's credit they lost Trent Edwards but T.C. Ostrander came in and played very well.
Stanford does a lot of things to try to take the run away like blitzing and running slants. They did a nice job of mixing eight-man drop coverage with zone blitzes.
SLB Anthony Trucks: It's a lot of fun to be out there. We worked a lot of coverages. They (Stanford) were checking out of a lot of our blitzes. We were thinking they would come to one side and they ended up coming to the other side.
My heart stopped for a second (on that last field goal). I felt like we had to win the game. I had a lot of people down there watching me.
When (Ostrander) came into the game, it was an advantage for us. When a new quarterback comes into the game it always takes him a while to see what we are doing defensively. We blitzed and we were able to do what we wanted to do.
QB Kellen Clemens: We're real proud of ourselves. It's a real good feeling.
(Terrence Whitehead) is going to cut back on you and he doesn't cough up the football. He's a heck of a football player.
Winning three in a row means we're moving in the right direction. Now we have to come home and play a Washington team that maybe hasn't had the season they wanted but it's still going to be a good game.
RB Terrence Whitehead: We got a win. That's the main thing I'm happy about. We came out here and played well, that's the main thing.
They gave me the ball a lot and I just ran. I'm happy with my performance. I'm happy that they gave me the ball a lot and I wanted to respond to that.
You can't thing too much. You have to just go out there and run. Our offensive line did a great job blocking today. It was on them (the offensive line) and they did a great job today.
