Stanford Post-Game Quotes
Head Coach Buddy Teevens -
We played a good football team today. Washington State played well. Jason Gesser
is everything he's billed to be. They made some big plays.
Offensively, we tried to control the clock a little bit more. We tried to establish
the run and push the ball down the field. But we didn't capitalize on our
drives. We had opportunities in the red zone, but we just didn't score.
I think it's just a matter of getting things going - making plays when
you have the opportunities. In our last game, we had a lot of dropped passes.
We're trying to make the pass, and if we do, the game is going to go differently.
We just have to find a way to get the ball in the end zone.
Jason Gesser is very impressive, sharp guy. Obviously, their team has
a strong leader. They have several receivers to throw to and their offense is
very respectable.
I was impressed with our defense. I thought our guys played hard. I saw some
big plays today, and they're going to continue to make big plays. We had
a strong second half, and our defense ended up shutting them down a little bit.
If we're playing hard, we're going to compete.
Chris (Lewis) did some nice things out there. Kyle (Matter) did some nice
things as well. Chris is our starter, and we're planning to move forward
with him.
Quarterback Chris Lewis -
It's a big frustration. We kind of feel like nothing's working. It
seems like every time we get a drive, we get a setback. Our defense is playing
hard, but we have to start putting some points on the board. This is getting
ridiculous.
It's definitely not supposed to be this way, but what can you do. We just
have to go back to the drawing board. We have to go back and figure it out
if it takes us all year, we just have to figure out a way to win. That's
our mindset. We're not quitters, we all work hard.
We really feel like our running attack is big time. With the combination of
Kerry Carter, Kenneth Tolon and
Casey Moore, we've got to get the ball
in those guys' hands, one way or another. Our offensive line wants us to
run the ball. If that's what's working ,then we're going to run
the ball.
Washington State Post-Game Quotes
Head Coach Mike Price -
On today's win: Our team did a really good job in preparing for this
game. We were ready to go; we weren't taking our opponent lightly. To come down
here into enemy territory with two freshmen starting as offensive linemen and
to see what they did early was really good.
On Stanford: I feel like this Stanford team is about ready to explode
and do really well on offense, so I think our defense did a nice job of keeping
them at bay. It won't be too long before Stanford gets their offense going.
I think their penalties were a result of a lot of frustration on their part.
They're going to spoil somebody's Saturday real soon, and I'm just glad it wasn't
ours.
On the rest of their season: We have a bye next week, so we're going
to rest for a week. We wanted to be 6-1 even with the injuries we had on this
team.
Cornerback Marcus Trufant -
On cornerback Jason David: J.D. was over there making it happen and I
have all the confidence in him. He's a little guy over there playing it big.
On matchup with Teyo Johnson: He's a good athlete and he's going to
make some things happen, so I just tried to minimize those big plays myself.
We came out on top today and that's all that really matters. He's taller than
most, but I held my own and made things happen.
On the rest of the season: Everybody in the Pac-10 is going to be hard,
so this was a really good test.
Offensive Lineman Tyler Hunt -
On today's game with the injuries: We couldn't have done better than
that. We came out and did what we had to do.
On getting to rest late in the game: It was nice, but it was also good
to get the younger guys in. The seniors aren't going to be here forever.
