Stanford Rowers Capture Gold With U.S. Boats At World Under 23 Championships

Stanford rowers celebrated another successful day on the international stage at the FISA World Rowing Under 23 Championships Sunday in Brandenburg, Germany. U.S. Men's Eight rowers Alex Osborne `09 and Silas Stafford `08 captured gold medals, and Jessi Reel `08 took home the gold as part of the U.S. Women's Eight boat that rowed to a 3.71-second victory over runner-up Poland. Steph Morrison `08, part of Canada's Women's Eight, made a late charge to finish fourth in the "A" Final, missing a bronze medal by just under three seconds.

Stanford Rowing Lands Six More To U.S. And Canada National Rowing Teams

Stanford Rowing added six more names Monday to its growing list of current and former rowers competing internationally this summer, as Sabrina Kolker `03 was named to Canada's Women's Pair (W2-) boat for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, while for the 2008 FISA World Rowing Under 23 World Championships, Steph Morrison `08 and Jessi Reel `08 earned spots on the women's eight boats of Canada and the United States, respectively, and Alex Osborne `09 and Silas Stafford `08 were both named to the U.S. Men's Eight boat. Erika Roddy `11 was named to the U.S. Women's Eight which will compete at the 2008 FISA World Rowing Senior And Junior Championships.

In an All-American quarterfinal matchup on Independence Day Friday at the Henley Royal Regatta in Henley-On-Thames, the Stanford Freshman Eight crew was aces once again, dealing the previously undefeated varsity men's lightweight boat from Cornell its first loss in the Temple Challenge Cup Draw. The Cardinal's victory launches it into Saturday's semifinal round, where it will face another American boat, Trinity College (Hartford), for a berth in the finals.

The Stanford Men's Rowing Freshman Eight dominated once again Thursday in the Temple Cup Challenge draw at the Henley Royal Regatta, once again turning in a winning time of 6:51, good for a four-and-a-half length victory over Fitzwilliam College (Cambridge). The win sets up an All-American quarterfinal matchup on Independence Day Friday, July 4, at 6:20 a.m. PT against Cornell University.

Stanford Freshman Eight Rows Into Second Round At Henley Royal Regatta

The Stanford Men's Rowing Freshman Eight enjoyed a successful first day in its pursuit of the Temple Challenge Cup at the Henley Royal Regatta Wednesday, advancing to the second round of the draw with a victory over South Africa's University of Stellenbbosch. The Cardinal will now take on Fitzwilliam College (Cambridge) in second-round action Thursday.
